Topic: Error when saving a recording card

Hi! One of the users on our system keep having an error pop up when he tries to save data on a recording card which says the error will be saved to a file on the recorder drive, but no such error is saved . Other users don't have this problem when trying to enter data for the same survey.

Then a box pops up saying error in application, a box I have seen many times, but there is no option to close application only to continue or restart, if you click restart the records are then there but this is quite tedious. When you click continue the previous recording card refuses to close leading to a big pile up on screen,

Help appreciated!

Re: Error when saving a recording card

This looks like it may be to do with the user permissions. Make sure that this user is able to save files to the recorder drive (including the folder where the error should go)

Is the error happening when trying to save the data entered on the card, or when changes to the card are being saved?

Thanks for replying!

The user has access to full edit of the survey in question, not sure how to check if they have access to save an error- it definitely hasn't been taken away recently consciously, could you tell me how I could check this?

The erroe happens when they have filled out a recording card and they are saving the records that they have entered

Re: Error when saving a recording card

Simply get the user to browse to the folder where the error should go (not sure where this is at present, but e the error message may tell you), or the folder where the recording cards are saved and attempt to create a new text file in there. If they can create such a file, then they have write permission on that folder, otherwise you will get an error message.

I had been assuming though, that the user in question was new. If this is a problem which has just started for a user who did not experience it before, then it would be good to identify any changes (updates etc.) which might have triggered the problem.

Re: Error when saving a recording card

The user has always had trouble entering records, though I accessed their user from my computer and could enter records no problem, could it be a network problem?

I have also looked in the location where the error says the error was saved and couldn't see the error there?

Re: Error when saving a recording card

The error now says exception class: ERapidTreeError, exception message: Getitem: List index out of bounds (%d)

Re: Error when saving a recording card

Problem now solved, well not solved but we can avoid it now. We just close the survey tab when we enter records and then all is fine. Thank you for your help! :)

That sounds like an old bug - are you on the most up-to-date version?

Yeah I seem to remember something about closing the survey tab on here before.
