Topic: Multiple record form bit different from how it is now...

Hi guys,

My question is as follows. I like the option to add multiple occurences alot. The only problem I have with this is that I'm restricted to these columns for data about a single species. I clarify myself a little bit more:
During one excursion we can record up to more then hunderd species in one area. So we write down the species and for some of them the specific ecology.
For example data related to species:
Species: Amanita muscaria
Substrate: On the ground - acid ground (this is subdivided because another option could be: On wood - dead wood) thus first filter on type of substrate and then specify.
Organism: associated with Betula (could use the filter for species, in this case host, but no idea how to do this)
Identifier: person
Herbarium: yes/no -> if yes herbarium nr.
Certainity: several options
Add photo

So there are two problems with the multiple record option. First of all, you are restricted to columns for data specific for your species and eventually it becomes wider than the screen and not user friendly anymore. The second problem is the parent - child option, for example with the substrate you would first have to select the main substrate, in this case soil and the specify more in detail in the next screen (it would have filtered only the options related to soil).

What would solve it for me is to use the casual record like on Irecord but when you save the first species, a line is for example added at the bottom with the species you added and the screen is cloned to submit the next record. The cloning would be to avoid to have to change the location and other fields that stay the same a hundred times. Or maybe like if you have the multiple records and you hit the add photo button, a new row is created, but then just to specify the ecology for the species. I have no idea if that's possible.  Or is there a better solution for this particular case?

Best regards,
Dieter

Lockable is a good start, maybe that's the way to go? :)

Hi Dieter,

Have you seen there is a hierarchical select?
You have to set it up on the warehouse with a term list consisting of the top level items and then, for each of those terms, create child lists for the secondary items.

The problem of the data entry grid being too wide to fit on the screen is also a handicap when trying to use Indicia with mobile devices. Solving that is somewhere on my to-do list. In the mean time, using single species entry with lockable fields may be your simplest solution.

Consider this as solved for now. :)
