Hi Dil, welcome to the forum.
Yes, you can import data from Excel (and many other formats) into Recorder via the Import Wizard. You can only import certain fields, though, mainly centered around species data, but it's a fairly powerful tool nonetheless.
What sort of data are you trying to import? If you could provide a sample I or someone else on this forum could tell you whether the import wizard is able to import it satisfactorily.
Hope that helps.
Charles
The Recorder 6 Help contains information using the Import Wizard. In v6.10.4, see Help – Contents tab – Tasks – Exchanging data – Import data – Import Wizard. The section on Data Format lists all the types of data that can be imported and includes links to a section that explains how abundance data is handled. These sections were updated for v6.10.4 and are more comprehensive than their predecessors.
thanks charlesr, Actually I have many files of data in Excel in the following format and was wondering if it can be imported into Recorder 6 or do I need to change the files to do it.regards,
ID GridRef Easting Northing Figures Species Name Common Name Location Date Date2 Recorder Habitat
1 SP670157 467000 215700 8 Triturus cristatus Warty Newt Rushbeds Wood and Railway Cutting SSSI 1965 - 1969 12/31/1969 No data
2 SU936863 493600 186300 8 Triturus cristatus Warty Newt Littleworth Common SSSI 21/05/1932 05/21/1932 No data
You should be able to import this using the Import Wizard. I'm not sure what Date2 is, and you will need to import the GridRef rather than Easting and Northing but other than that it looks fine.
