Topic: A Couple of Questions on Custom Fields in Instant Indicia

Hi, I'm just trying to get my head around configuring Instant Indicia and I hoped someone could help me with a couple of questions:

1. Is it possible to add a custom field to the survey information such that for every species entered in a survey there is an "abundance" measure? I've tried going into Indicia Warehouse and adding a custom block to the "occurrence" section of the survey, but this then does not show up in the custom attributes > occurrence attributes area, so I can't get an ID for it, which the tutorials suggest is needed to add it to the user interface. Is Instant Indicia flexible enough to be able to add new fields to your data collection?

2. Is there any guidance online as to how to set up expert verification of records in Instant Indicia? i.e. when a record is submitted it is flagged as preliminary until an admin has reviewed it. I haven't managed to find any guidance as to how to implement this kind of workflow.

1. The steps you need are to go to the warehouse and create a new occurrence attribute (Custom attributes > Occurrence attributes) with the definition of what you want to capture. Or you might find that an appropriate attribute already exists depending on what else has been set up on your survey. When on the edit page for the attribute, give the attribute a caption, data type and any validation you think is necessary, then ensure you've ticked the box to link your attribute to the survey you are recording into. If you are using the standard Instant Indicia recording forms, then once you have cleared the Indicia cache you should find the attribute automagically appears.
2. When records are input, the default record status is set to C which means that the record entry is complete (in some workflows the record might be added but remain in progress until further info has been added). Think of this status as pending verification. You then need to enable the Instant Indicia verification feature to turn on a verification system. However I'd note that this feature is fairly out of date now and there are better versions of the verification system available now, such as the one on iRecord. If you need it I can provide instructions on setting up the same verification tool on your site as iRecord.

Having said all that, are you using your own warehouse or the BRC one? If the latter, have you thought about exposing your records to the iRecord verification system rather than hosting your own?

For the moment, I'm using my own warehouse. Any guidance you could provide on setting up the verification would be much appreciated.
