Topic: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

These small upgrades are now available from the R6 web site http://jncc.defra.gov.uk/page-4615  .  Although they are in two separate downloads they may be processed together. They contain minor corrections to the Organism, Taxon Version and Taxon tables. The Taxon_Version changes are mainly to add attributes to the table which had  being excluded in error from previous upgrades. Note that it will be necessary to rebuild the Index tables after this upgrade.

I note that the attributes s.lat. and s. str. are still missing from the beetles Chaetarthria seminulum (Herbst,1797)and Suphrodytes dorsalis (Fabricius, 1787), which underwent species splits in 2005 and 2011 respectively, despite my many attempts to draw this problem, and related problems, to the attention of the relevant people via the forum and privately.

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

I know that Chris has atempted to sort this out and it was thought that the problem was that R6 was out of step with the NHM dictionary  in respect of some  attributes which had been changed recently.  If there are still problems then it would seem that it is in the tables, rather than being an R6 problem specifically. Where in R6 are you looking to see that the attributes are missing ?

Initially I checked some of my records of these species (imported from R3) in the Observations hierarchy.  Then I looked in the List of additional names.

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

The Chaetarthria seminulum that came from Recorder 3 should show sens lat if the option to show the information is switched on in options (v6.21). The List of Additional Names has a different Taxon_Version_Key without sens lat which would make it a different Organism (concept) to those recorded using the R3 list.  The recommended name for entries from all other lists is coming from the Beetles list.

With Suphrodytes dorsalis the entries on all lists except the one on the Beetles list points to  the list of additional name (no attribute).  The one on the Beetles list has a different taxon version key and this has sens lat as an attribute.

It may all be Ok, but Chris would need to explain the thinking.

The R6 dictionary and NHM Dictionaery are the same so this isn't the reason for any problems.

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

I managed to install upgrades 1T & 1U, but cannot install any others - when I try, I get the following message:
'A different upgrade is required to upgrade your version of Recorder.  Please refer to the Recorder website (see below) for details of upgrades available.  Note that Recorder must be upgraded to the latest version using the correct upgrade (or series of upgrades run in order) and that Recorder 2002 cannot be upgraded to Recorder 6.'

The website it gives is http://www.recordersoftware.org/ which does not exist anymore

I had previously upgraded from Recorder version 6.18.1 to 6.22.2.  I installed the dictionary upgrades 1T & 1U, but it won't let me install any more

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

What dictionary version does Help – About say you are at? What is in the Scripts folder in your dictionary upgrade kit? Are 0000001V.zip and 0000001V.ini in it?

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

It says dictionary version 0000001U.  The scripts folder has 0000001V.ini, 0000001V.zip, 000001W.sql and Rec6Dict_0000001T,1U_UnzipMe.zip in it

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

Could you take Rec6Dict_0000001T,1U_UnzipMe.zip out of the Scripts folder and try running the upgrade again. Please let us know if this helps.

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

I am also having problems with this update process.

I've just upgraded from 6.19.4.267 to 6.22.2.274 and have downloaded  0000001X,IY,1Z,20,21,22,23.zip  and all subsequent Dictionary update files.  I've downloaded and unzipped the latest  Recorder 6 Dictionary Upgrade Kit version 4.
I then unzip the update folder and put all the files into the Scripts folder.  For this zip file I have extracted 5 SQL Server Query files Two configuration files and two MSAccess Application files. These are:
0000001X.sql
0000001Y.sql
0000001Z.sql
00000020.ini
00000020.mdb
00000021.sql
00000022.ini
00000023.sql
NBNData00000022.mdb

Then I run the Dictionary update programme and get the message

'A different upgrade is required to upgrade your version of Recorder.  Please refer to the Recorder website (see below) for details of upgrades available.  Note that Recorder must be upgraded to the latest version using the correct upgrade (or series of upgrades run in order) and that Recorder 2002 cannot be upgraded to Recorder 6.'

I have tried the other upgrades and they all give the same message.

My Recorder Dictionary Version on 'About Recorder 6' is 0000000Y

I'm running on 64-bit Windows 7 Service Pack 1

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

I think this is happening because you have gone one stage too far with unzipping.  You need to unzip just once.  This means that  000020.mdb and NBdata00000022.mdb shouldn't be there. You should have  00000020.zip and 00000022.zip

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

I've deleted all downloads and started again.
Downloaded and unzipped the Dictionary upgrade kit v4.
Ran it and it said my files were up-to-date.

Downloaded 0000001X,IY,1Z,20,21,22,23.zip and unzipped it once.
Ran the upgrade kit and got the same message as before.

I have a PC with 2 SSDs and run R6 on a SSD which is the G-drive in a 'Programmes' file, as I've tried to keep the C-drive SSD relatively clear of bigger programmes.  I downloaded all these files onto the same drive, in a folder I called 'Recorder 6 downloads' and unzipped them in there.  This time the files I have are

0000001X.sql
0000001Y.sql
0000001Z.sql
00000020.ini
00000020.zip
00000021.sql
00000022.ini
00000022.zip
00000023.sql

In the Recorder 6 downloads folder I've got the Upgrade kit unpacked in its own 'Dictionary upgrade kit'  folder and I copied the above unzipped files into the Scripts folder, but didn't delete the ones that were already in there.

Any thoughts/ideas?

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

Can you check which version of the Dictionary R6 thinks you are at.  Do this through R6 . Click on help and then 'About Recorder 6'.  The files look right if this shows you are up to 0000001W.

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

It says 0000000Y.  Presumably more recent than the one you mentioned?

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

0000000Y is a  long time ago. Numbering systems uses the 1- 9 then the alpha characters A to Z  (in 36's not sure what to call this) so when it gets 0000000Z it goes to 00000010. You need 00000010,00000011,00000012,0000013,00000014,00000015,00000016,0000017,00000018,00000019,
000001A,0000000001B,0000001C,0000001D,000001E,0000001F,0000001G,0000001H,0000001I, 00000001J,0000001K,0000001L,0000001M,0000001N,0000001O,00000001P, 00000001Q,00000001R,00000001S,0000001T,0000001U,00000001V,00000001W  in addition to the ones you mention above.   Sounds a lot, but they are fairly easy to download. Just unzip them once as you have now done with  1X to 23.

In these upgrades you will be populating the new Organism table, which takes along time, so be prepared for a   wait (an hour or so)  with  nothing happening on the screen.

All working now.  Many thanks.

Re: Dictionary Upgrade 1T,IU,1V,1W

When I run the latest upgrade I get this message;

Recorder in not correctly installed on this machine. Upgrade cannot proceed.

Any thoughts?
