Topic: Recorder 6 not starting

Hi,

I've just tried to open my stand alone version of Recorder 6 but it crashed out with the message :

"An error occurred whilst starting the application, EOleException: [DBNETLIB][ConnectioOpen (Connect(),]SQL Server does not exist or access denied"

Not being terribly techy, I don't know what this means or how to fix it so I would be grateful if anybody can suggest a solution.

Many Thanks,

Steve

Re: Recorder 6 not starting

I assume it has been working before. If so could be that  microsoft update has stopped SQL server.  Basically you have to find services and see if  SQL Server is running. Going to control panel and typing in 'Services' in the help should give you a link to Administrative Services (Local). Where you can check to see what is running. Most of the services starting 'SQL Server' should  be shown as started. If not try to starting as many as you can. If you let me know what operating system you are using and the version of SQl Server I can give specific instructions

Thanks Mike,

I've just done as you suggested and found a few SQLs had been disabled and that restarting them has cured the problem.

All the best,

Steve

I have just had exactly the same problem. I think this may be down to a recent Microsoft upgrade which stops the service and doesn't start it again.

Re: Recorder 6 not starting

Dear Steve - consider yourself lucky you got it back. I lost the ability to run R6 at all for more than a month - I was convinced, and I still am, that a Microsoft update caused my SQL to refuse to run. You name it I tried it (including Restore Points and conscripting the help of better brains than me) and never resolved the problem. I eventually found myself having to re-install the OS!! I've lost my confidence in MS automatic updates.
