Topic: one site data 10k grid square

Hi

Thought you might be interested in this thing I’ve been working on – it’s a quick way to access NBN records over the web. I’ve just done a couple of sample areas (nesbrec and kmbrc) as a demonstration, using terrestrial mammals for this example. It’s meant to be fast loading and should give pretty much instantaneous lists of mammals over the shaded areas, at 10k resolution. This does require an SVG capable browser which translates to IE9+, recent chrome and firefox and is restricted to public access records from NBN covering all dates, so no guarantees it’ll match exactly what you'd expect.

To use it all you do is visit the page

http://surveys.ereca.org.uk/mammal/atla … area=kmbrc

and single click on any of the shaded 10k squares. This brings up a list (it’s a toggle action so the list can be hidden by a further click), which can be dragged to the side by a click and drag motion in the panel title bar and then once it’s positioned to the side you simply move the mouse to any 10k square and the list updates as you go. The NBN button in each box takes you to the NBN page for that square and opens in a separate window. There is a species filter which is a rather simple affair that just removes the squares where that species is not present.

The NESBReC one has some of my records in it so you can see how it can be used for surveys. This page is at

http://surveys.ereca.org.uk/mammal/atla … ea=nesbrec

and has a few more colours to look at...

Let me know if you find it of any use and if you maybe have some ideas how this can be developed further, or if it just doesn’t work at all?

Ta
