Topic: 6.18.1 Upgrade Error

I've tried to search for this specific error but I don't know if the search facility is working properly or if it's me that's not working properly.

I'm trying to upgrade v6.17.1 to 6.18.1 but have hit an error.

  • exception number: 1.

  • exception class: EDBUpgradeError.

  • exception message: Error occurred running script 0000008W.sql. The error is described as: The conversion of char data type to smalldatetime data type resulted in an out-of-range smalldatetime value.

Searches indicate that this type of error relates to a date format discrepancy although I don't know what would need to be changed to resolve if that is the case here. The upgrade appears to be running still but I expect it's not and that I'll need to restore the database until the issue is sorted and would therefore be grateful for any assistance.

I can't immediately see anything in script 0000008W which could cause this problem. Can you confirm that you are using the version from the R6 web site (release 260)  and not the Release candidate version (relesae 259) made available earlier. The problem usually happens because the script uses a date format for date changed which is not the same as that on the machine, but we are using (get date) so this shouldn't be  a problem. I am continuing to look for other possible causes.

I don't know how to confirm this but I did just download it from the site yesterday so I'd assume it's the latest release. I've saved the bug report if that would be of interest?

If you dowloaded it from the site then this should be fine as it will be version 260. Please let me have the bug report as it may help to isolate the problem.

I thknk I have found the problem. The date had been left in a string format in two places, instead of  being GetDate(), which maans that thw SQL has problems  where the system date format is not the default . I attach a revised version of script 0000008W.  Can you replace the file 00000008W.sql in the scripts folder with the attached.  If this is a problem, I can providea new upgrade.

That's the upgrade showing as complete with the new file - thanks very much Mike.

Just need to run the dictionary upgrades in a bit and have it all tested.

On first login after the upgrade of Recorder and the first dictionary upgrade we're getting an EAPIerror, Error 2: The system cannot find the file specified.

I'm hoping this is due to the index tables needing to be rebuilt but I don't want to proceed without checking here first.

I've just gone ahead with a rebuild of the tables and have been able to logon ok without a repeat of the EAPI error. Will run the remaining dictionary upgrades and hope to test fully at the end of next week.

Not sure about the message, but Recorder doesn't work properly  until the tables are rebuilt.

Initial testing shows most functions are working ok but we are getting another error as below. I'm hoping we can complete testing tomorrow.

Right clicking on a saved location and clicking on ‘Find on map’ produces error 'The system cannot find the file specified' (bug report attached).

As this function worked prior to the upgrade I'll assume it's best to keep the latest issue in this topic but please let me know if not.

Please can you attach the error message. Not sure if  6,.18 changed anything in thsi areaand will check. Is it all Locations or just a few ?
