I have been trying to use a hierarchical term list for the first time in order to be able to select a habitat, first by choosing a broad category, and then by selecting a specific habitat within that category.

The Warehouse supports creation of such termlists. When you edit a term there is a tab which lists child terms. Thus I could enter my broad categories, then edit each one to add child terms.

I also knew that there was support in the client-helpers for a hierarchical-select control but, when I added a custom attribute to my survey which used the hierarchical termlist, the dynamic prebuilt forms showed it as a single select containing all my parent and child terms together.

I was pleased to discover that all I needed to do in order to get a hierarchical-select control was to add an option to the attribute in the form structure like @lookUpListCtrl=hierarchical_select.
