Re: Problems with deleting data

Dear Indicia users,

we have deleted some occurrences and samples from the warehouse of our Indicia site, but some of relevant records are still available on the Indicia site.
In the warehouse, we have followed the path: Entered data - Occurrences (or Samples) - edit - delete.

Another similar problem was encountered when we tried to delete a survey. In the warehouse, we have followed the path: Lookup lists - Surveys - Istrice2 (the name of our survey) - edit - delete. The message "The record was deleted successfully." appeared, but the survey was not deleted.

We made these attempts through an "administrator" access, so we think that no problems occurred with permissions.

Maybe someone could be able to kindly suggest us how to delete data?

Thank you very much in advance!

Re: Problems with deleting data

Hi Francesco
When you delete a record or survey in Indicia, they are only marked as deleted but remain in the database. When you then view them via a report or some other mechanism, that mechanism must respect the deleted field in each record or else the data will appear anyway. So, on the Indicia site (i.e. not the warehouse) which report are you using to display the records?

Re: Problems with deleting data

Hi

Another important thing to know is that deletion is not cascaded so, if you delete a survey that has samples the samples are not deleted. And if those samples had occurrences they would not be deleted. And if those occurrences had attributes, they would not be deleted.

The consequence of this is that, say you write a query to add up the values of an occurrence attribute and you want it to take account of deletions, you must check that the attribute has not been deleted and also join to all the parent items and check they have not been deleted too.
