Re: Problem installing Recorder OS map tiles

We are trying to set up a new Recorder 6 networked database, but are experiencing problems with installing OS map tiles. We have obtained the unlock keys for the tiles, but on opening NBN map browser we get the error message "Recorder not properly installed or set up: can't find site ID".

We have tried using the tool "Recorder 6 _ create access Mdb ", which is designed to fix a similar problem, but on running this, on the Recorder Access Database Setup screen we are asked to either login using the 'sa' login and password (which we don't have), or to login using the NT account to connect, which also does not work - this leads to an error message stating "Setup failed to create linked Access database due to the following error: access denied."

After reassuring us that this is a minor error, we then get the following message: "You can retry creating the Access db now or later by running the 'CreateAccessLinkedTables.bat' file located in C:/Program files/Recorder 6 server".

We have also tried this, to no avail. It has been suggested that it could be a firewall issue or a permissions issue, but it does not appear to be linked to either.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Re: Problem installing Recorder OS map tiles

The Map software will not work unless it can connect to an Access database which in turn links to R6. I would think there is some sort of permission issue which is stopping Recorder creating the linked access database.  Do you have MS Access available ? If so this could  be used to create a database  which the NBN software can access. Any problems with doing this would help identify where R6 is having difficulties.

Re: Problem installing Recorder OS map tiles

Hi Mike, we tried this, but no luck - it does not seem to be a permissions issue; Following Sally Rankin's advice we also tried logging in under two different administrator accounts which also did not work. She thought it might be a problem with the firewall, but it still does not work with the firewall off!

Any other suggestions?

thanks

Re: Problem installing Recorder OS map tiles

Do you mean you have actually created a new Access database which does link to Recorder and it still doesn't work ?

We tried linking to another Acess database, but it wouldn't do that either.

Re: Problem installing Recorder OS map tiles

I was hoping that you would have been able to set up an ODBC link  through the ODBC data source Administrator  using a trusted connection.  NBNData.mdb could then have been updated to use the new link or a new Access database created to link the required map tables.  If you can't set up a working ODBC link then the only way to get the maps installed will  be to set them up on a standalone copy of Recorder ( say on a lap top)  and then load the .gsf files from this installation of Recorder into the network copy of Recorder.

Re: Problem installing Recorder OS map tiles

I am trying to upgrade the Recorder taxon dictionary for the first time, and when I try to run the Recorder Dictionary upgrade kit I am unable to log using either the SQL Server login option or the option to use my windows account. I get an error message stating "cannot open database "NBN Data" requested by the login"

This sounds horribly like the previous problem we had (above), which we never fully resolved. Does anybody ahve any ideas as to why I cannot use the Dictionary Upgrade Kit, and if so what I can do about it?

thanks
