Re: Recorder 6.17 import wizard error

One of our users has been having problems since upgrading to 6.17.

We have measurement types set up for small scale habitats and abundance. Since upgrading the column type selection in the import wizard no longer offers these as options and he gets the message: A column type could not be loaded from the database for Key value SYSTEM010000000Q. Item cannot be found in the collection corresponding to the requested name or ordinal.

My system, which has the same set up, has also been upgraded and is fine so it's a bit of a mystery.

As a first step try running the upgrade again.  On the surface of it, it would appear that one of the database tables may not have upgarded properly..

Re: Recorder 6.17 import wizard error

I can duplicate this by manually attaching a V6.16 database to the 6.17 software. Script 00000081 in the upgrade changes a stored procedure  [dbo].[usp_TaxonOccurrenceDataTypes_Select] . If this is not updated  then the import wizard fails to display the measurement types. This suggest that the database changes are not being made by the upgrade.

This has now been identified as a problem with scripts 0000007Z which will not work on SQl Server 2000 systems. Consequently scripts are to 7Z to 82 are not  being run. A revised upgrade is being tested at the moment and will be availble shortly. The scripts which are not running affect the import wizard and even then will not cause any data corruptions.  The main effect will be the one described above.

Re: Recorder 6.17 import wizard error

Following a conversation with Sally Rankin, I'll outline here my problem upgrading to 6.17.1 from 6.15.4. My 'Recorder6' is running on a laptop with Sequal Server version of about 2006. First I upgraded my dictionaries without problem as far as 0000000T plus the rebuilds. I then put 'UpgradeKit (from 6.14)' folder in the same place as all my the previous upgarde kits, but the upgrade to 6.17.1 only gets as far as unpacking the files, before the error box appears. After this, when I ran the program, it seemed to enter OK, but with the new title panel came up (with longhorn beetle) and the 'about' panel showing version 6.17.1.250. Trying again, now only the new title panel comes up and with the error box over it straight away. Can you help?

Please can you give an indication of what the original error message was during the upgrade  and what message you now get.

Re: Recorder 6.17 import wizard error

Dear Mike
Thank you for your reply
Running Recorder now stops with the basic error box showing:
'An unhandled error has occurred in the application'
and the debug file ends:
'The Error Path setting is missing or incorrect.Recorder is not installed properly and cannot start'

The upgrade stopped with the box showing:
'An error occurred in the application'
with the debug file header ending with:

callstack crc     : $f69342f9, $b7a41c33, $b7a41c33
count             : 6
exception number  : 1
exception class   : EDBUpgraderError
exception message : Error occurred running script 0000007Z.sql. The error is described as: Invalid object name 'sys.objects'.

I hope this helps

Re: Recorder 6.17 import wizard error

Dear Mike

This upgrade completed without error, through to the completion panel.
However Recorder does not run - not reaching the sign-in.
As before the error panel shows
'An unhandled error has occurred in the application'
and the debug file ends:
'The Error Path setting is missing or incorrect.Recorder is not installed properly and cannot start'

Re: Recorder 6.17 import wizard error

Not sure why this has happended. Version 6.17 is a bit more fussy about where files are stored and there may be something left over froma previous install which is not  as it shoould be.  Are you comfortable with editing Windows registry using regedit ? If so then  go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Dorset Software/Settings. Find the entry  for Error Reporting from the list on the right hand side and delete it. The try Recorder again.

If you are unhappy about doing this please phone me on 01635 820904 (evenings and weekends are Ok) and I will talk you throught it.

Re: Recorder 6.17 import wizard error

Dear Mike

Regedit no problem and all seems fixed, many thanks indeed.
Summary box shows version 7.17.2.251 with dictionaries to ...T.

I'll just now upgrade dictionaries to ...Y and all should be well.

Thanks again
Ivan
