Re: How do I create square polygons from points in ArcGIS

Hi all,

I need some help with mapping my records. I have a large number of records which are mapped as points in GIS but I would like to display them as square polygons depending on the precision at which they were recorded.  I would like to display them in the same way as the NBN map.

I have an ArcGIS v10 Info license but I can't find a suitable tool. Can anyone point me in the right direction? I have been searching for the fabled 'Squaremaker' tool produced by JNCC but I am having no luck and I'm not sure if it will work with ArcGIS v10

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks

Ian

Re: How do I create square polygons from points in ArcGIS

Hi,

I created an ArcGIS tool some time ago to convert grid references to polygons.  I've uploaded a copy of the .mxd containing the tool (on a toolbar along with a buffer tool) onto the file upload area.

I'd welcome any feedback from users.

Cheers,
Andy

For other ways of doing this, please see this earlier thread:

Thanks for sharing your Arc tool Andy. I hadn't noticed the file upload area before!

Re: How do I create square polygons from points in ArcGIS

ANDY: Thanks for the tool. I haven't been able to try it yet as I need to install the VBA licence for ArcGIS 10. As an aside apparently VBA will no longer be supported in 10.1 which will cause a few problems I'm sure.

TERESA: Thanks for pointing me in the direction of the tread, I used the GML solution in the end and it work a treat. All I need now is a python script to do it in ArcMAP

Thank you both for your help

Ian
