Re: Tools to transfer records from MapMate to Recorder

I wish to transfer information as above. There is a "2002 MapMate transfer.zip" file that contains queries for MapMate, and documentation, that allow records to be exported from MapMate as tab-delineated text files which are suitable for import into Recorder 2002 v2.3.1 BUT does any one anyone have any experience or knowledge how this would work with the latest version of Recorder 6 and MapMate.

Re: Tools to transfer records from MapMate to Recorder

I've used the MapMate transfer queries many times and they work well. In Recorder 6, the the abundance columns require a little massaging as abundance now import differently in R6. However, I've modified the queries to be compatible with the R6 import wizard. I'll upload them today if you like?

Hi Charles,

Was wondering whether you had managed to upload the modified queries? I would be interested in these too as we will be doing a data exchange and getting it all in the MapMate to Recorder export file.

Cheers

Re: Tools to transfer records from MapMate to Recorder

I've uploaded the updated queries. I'm not entirely satisfied with the solution as it requires a little data manipulation in Excel. I ran out of time, though, so I'm uploading as is. Download here:

http://forums.nbn.org.uk/uploads.php?file=MM%20to%20R6.zip

Be sure to read the instructions. Pay particular attention to the note at the end of the Word doc entitled Importing a file from a MapMate user. This manual manipulation is essential as there must be only one space between an abundance value and its qualifier. If there are more spaces, the new IW will interpret the second space as an abundance delimiter. Once you're in the IW, it will ask you to match the space-less qualifiers with real ones.

Hope that makes sense. Let me know if you have any questions at all.

Re: Tools to transfer records from MapMate to Recorder

Thanks Charles for the download. It achieves just what I wanted, with a way of down loading information from MapMate, using MapMate's own sync process to manage the downloads. That said, it is important as you state to read the Word.doc and understand the MapMate sync process.:)

Best Wishes
