Re: Recorder 6 Status Descriptions

Hi

Can anyone tell me where the information for the status descriptions came from originally? I am putting together a document for our data users which explains the abbreviation used in reports and describes the legislation associated. I thought this was going to be nice and easy beacuse the info is supplied in the Taxon Designation Type Term List unfotunately a few of the descriptions in R6 have been cut short (no doubt due to character length restrictions) and so I am havining to search around to complete the descriptions which is taking quite a bit longer

Thanks
Rachel

Re: Recorder 6 Status Descriptions

Hi Rachel,

Sorry, the truncation issue has been addressed and is likely to be fixed in the next dictionary upgrade. The designation descriptions are written by JNCC based on information from the original designation sources. Most of sources should be easy enough to find on-line but some are more obscure - email me any you are struggling with and I will send the descriptions.

Best wishes,
Mary

Re: Recorder 6 Status Descriptions

On second thought, JNCC maintain a spreadsheet - Taxon_designations - which can be downloaded from here: http://www.jncc.gov.uk/default.aspx?page=3408.
Both the spreadsheet and Recorder designations data are fed from the same database but just be aware that the spreadsheet is more up-to-date. There will therefore be some discrepancies between the two.

For information, there is an active forum thread for feedback on the spreadsheet content: http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=1736
