Re: Problem Installing onto new Windows 7 (64bit) machine

I am trying to move Recorder 6 to new standalone machine (running Windows 7 64 bit). Progress so far:

Tried installing MS SQL Express 2005 (SQLEXPR32.EXE). Stopped by error message “failed because installation package could not be opened. Missing file or running 32 bit only setup programme on 64 bit computer, verify the SQL Server 2005 package you are running is supported on WOW64.”

Tried clean install from new disk (6.15.4) into C:\Recorder6. But in “New SQL Instance” window the Install button remains greyed out. So cant proceed.

I then installed the 32 bit version of SQL Server 2008 R2 Express using the default settings, except that I ticked the “Mixed Mode” option as Mike Weideli suggests for the 2005 install. I had to enter an sa account password rather than leave blank.

Tried to install Recorder again into C:\ Recorder6 using existing instance but this brings up the “Invalid class string” error that is mentioned in another recent post on the forum. Similarity with that post seems to be SQL Server 2008 Express.

For the present I can continue with it running on the old computer, but I am concerned that I cannot install Recorder onto a new clean modern windows computer!
