Re: Importing Grid References containing spaces

We have just received an XML export from one of our data suppliers' copy of Recorder. When I try and import it at our end, 733 records are rejected because of an XML tag error, which states that the spatial_ref tag is invalid with the error message "The spatial reference system cannot be recognised". The tag attribute "system" is set to OSGB, which is fine.

The only problem I can see is that there are spaces in the grid reference, e.g. SH 1234 5678 - not ideal, but fairly easy for the Import Wizard to deal with, you might have thought. Is there any way, without manually correcting the 1466 entries in the XML file, that this can be dealt with? Alternatively, is there a script available that can be run on the original database to correct these issues?

Any suggestions gratefully received!

Tim

Your problem  could well be the spaces in the grid refs. If the data is coming from a Recorder 6 system, then the Batch Update JNCCDataCorrections1.zip vailable from File Uploads  on the forum will fix the problem on the source system. If it is coming from Recorder  2002 then the best way will be to run a query in Acess on the source system  to remove the spaces.

Re: Importing Grid References containing spaces

Thanks Mike,

I'll recommend that they run the batch update on their system and re-export the data. It would be nice if the Import Wizard was able to cope with this though!

Cheers,
