I've a large dataset to import which has the people entered as initials in the following format:

PAG & CJH  (I also tried PAG, CJH)

on running the import, when it comes to the matching of observers, it reports two entries for matching:

CJH
PAG CJH

This is obviously wrong  - if I change them to "P.A.G. & C.J.H." then it parses correctly

This is probably a result of the new parsing in 6.15 which will split names like R an J Fox into R Fox and J Fox. The rules could probably changed to be a bit more selective.  This has been logged as a change request (reference  200)
