Re: Occurrences Not Recognized

As I go through the import process I'm checking peoples names to match against those in the system.

On the last person I checked I looked for occurrences and found none. Thinking this is a new entry from a previously stopped import that I could use now I just checked for Locations and found none. When I checked Events I found several with Occurrences where this individual is the Recorder as stated in the Sample.

So forgive me if I have something wrong here but when is an occurrence not an occurrence?

If this is a feature why would I believe any info coming from the occurrences table?

Any ideas?

Re: Occurrences Not Recognized

Were you using the Related Data button for these checks? Related Data – Events or Samples will filter the observation hierarchy for survey events or samples where the selected person is listed as a recorder. Related Data – Occurrences filters for taxon occurrences where the selected person is a determiner on one of the determinations listed on the Dets. tab. If observations are entered with a determiner who is not one of the recorders, the recorders go on the survey events and samples but not the taxon determinations; the determiner goes on the taxon determination. Thus using Related Data – Occurrences for one of the recorders in this situation would not return the observations entered (technically correct, if not particularly obvious).

Re: Occurrences Not Recognized

I have to say I agree with Tony, if you use Related Data to get the occurrences for a person, then I would expect to see the occurrences they determined and/or recorded, not just those they determined. I'll run this by Mary to see what she thinks.

Re: Occurrences Not Recognized

I have used Related Data - Occurrences and had assumed that I was getting the occurrences that had been recorded by the person rather than their determinations. Most cases in our system it would be the same, so not a major problem. I can see now why this would have made sense, but it is a bit counter-intuitive.

Re: Occurrences Not Recognized

This is fixed for the next release of Recorder now - related data for individuals will return both the records recorded by someone and the records they determined.
