Re: Another Addin not working... Unchecked Records

Following my unresolved problems with the import wizard in R2002 I've now had another AddIn fail on me. The Show Unchecked records addin produces the error reporoduced below.
I've removed it & re-installed it to no effect. Any ideas?

Re: Another Addin not working... Unchecked Records

Hi there Dave,

Do you have R6 installed as well on same machine?

I remember getting this problem when transferring records beteewn them; I seem to recall it had something to do with the Registry being overwritten during the install, but couldn't fix it.

Essentially, if you do have both versions on same machine, you can either use the unchecked on R6 or not at all. There were other overlaps as well, with Go to Grid & something else.

Sorry not much help, Rob.

Re: Another Addin not working... Unchecked Records

Rob, yes that's almost certainly what's wrong with with the 'Show Unchecked' on this machine.
Unfortunately the probelmis a little more complicated than I'd hoped in that the other machines that run Recorder 2002 on the network crash when this addin is used giving no reason. These machines do not have (and never have had R6) installed.

Does R6 affect the registry of the server in such a way that would affect workstations running R2002 even if those workstations had not had R6 installed? This could explain most (if not all) of the probelms I've been having recently...

Re: Another Addin not working... Unchecked Records

Dave,

Installing Recorder 6 does not place any registry settings on the server - it just uses the server as a 'file share'.  But it does place addins onto the server.  If your Recorder 6 installation was one of the very old betas then it was designed to upgrade the Recorder 2002 instance, in which case your addins would have been overwritten explaining the problem.  But recent versions place their files in a separate folder structure so Recorder 2002 should not be affected.

Re: Another Addin not working... Unchecked Records

So installing Recorder 6 (version 6.6.8) on the network should only mess up the R2002 addins on workstations that had also had R6 installed?
If this is the case, then there is something else wrong with our R2002 'Show Unchecked' Addin which is not related to R6. Running the addin (on any non-R6 workstation) causes the full survey hieracrchy to be shown and the R2002 becomes unresponsive. The R2002 Addins are in the same location on the Server as they have always been - the R6 install created a separate folder as John said should happen.
I'll try re-running the last R2002 upgrade to see if that solves the probelm.

Re: Another Addin not working... Unchecked Records

Re-running the last upgrade has not solved the probelm, but at least R2002 had given me an exception! Does this help to determine where the problem lies?

- kind off, except that for addins properly updated for Recorder 6 they shouldn't get messed up at all!  Unfortunately I don't know the state of this addin as it wasn't developed by Dorset Software.

Looking at the information you have given this morning, is it possible that you now have a lerge number of unchecked records which weren't present in the database before the addin stopped working?  It could be that you have simply broken a limit in Access's querying capability which often causes 'Out of Memory' errors.

Re: Another Addin not working... Unchecked Records

How infuratingly simple! Yes by checking the unchecked records in Access (I hadn't realised that there were 13000 of them!) the addin works again.

Re: Another Addin not working... Unchecked Records

This has also fixed my Import Wizard problem, in that there were too many species to match at one time. Break the file up and everything seems fine again.
