Re: Import of pre-verified records via wizard

Apologies for cluttering the forum with what may be a really basic query, but how can datasets of pre-verified bird records from trusted sources that have also effectively gone through the determination stage at source, be imported using the wizard so that they don't have to be tediously verified manually later?

I would like to flag such records as 'correct' on import and be able to report on them as such. Its easier to carry out re-deteminations and alterations to the status of the extremely small number of records that may be subsequently found to be incorrect at a later date!

Many thanks,

Re: Import of pre-verified records via wizard

Recorder Version 6.15 allows you to import the Determination type via the Import Wizard. You need to add a column with this into the file being imported. While this will get the Determination type correct there appears to be a problem with the import in that the Verified  indicator is not being set correctly. See http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=1679 and it will be necessary to run a Batch Update to correct this until the bug is fixed.

Records imported from other R6 systems can't have their Determination Type changes, but it is possible to apply a Batch Update to the imported data which will add a new preferred Detemination an set the Determination type to what you require.

Re: Import of pre-verified records via wizard

Related to this, if I report on a set of records and include the taxon_occurrence_key in there, then send them off for verification, when I get them back, am I able to import the new verification statuses into Recorder without creating duplicate records? Presumably the Import Wizard will be able to recognise the taxon_occurrence_key and won't import a duplicate record, but will it be able to add a new, updated determination, notwithstanding the bug regarding the verified indicator?

Re: Import of pre-verified records via wizard

You can't use the Import Wizard in this way. All the import Wizard will do is to is add new records. You need to use Batch Update approach or some variation of it.    http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?pid=5728#p5728

Re: Import of pre-verified records via wizard

Thanks for the reply Mike. However, I'm a relative novice when it comes to R6 and can't quite work out how to set the determination type via the Import Wizard, as you describe. Would you mind talking me through it more fully, including how to carry out the batch update to correctly flag the records? We are running 6.14.4.212 - is it still possible to do it with this version?? If not, then an upgrade would be worth it just to remove the need to manually verify records which have already been verified!!

Any advice appreciated.
