Re: New Taxonomic Checklists

How do I add a new Taxonomic List - the reason I ask, is I have a number of species either added by me or by Sally Rankin when transferring our Recorder 3 data and I would like to collect all these species together as a single list so I can check when doing exports since these species cannot be exported. It will also make it obvious when entering records that the taxon is a 'local' one and not a global one, so should be avoided if possible.

At the moment the species are all mixed into the Recorder 3 list (often not in the correct taxonomic position) which is not ideal - I'm happy to make changes via the background database if necessary, but do not want to do anything which could affect the future compatibility of Recorder 6 with subsequent upgrades.

Re: New Taxonomic Checklists

You can't  add a new taxonomic list through the Recorder front end. Although you could add one through Access or SQL Server tools (Taxon_List and Taxon_List_Version tables)  this might  possibly interfere with a subseqent Recorder dictionary upgrade so perhaps this should be avoided if possible .  One option would a new top level in the Recorder 3 Dictionary and put all your users defined taxa in there. I am suggesting the R3 list because it is stable and not linked to a specific taxon group.   You could include a Taxonomic hierarchy, but this will not be reflected in or used by  reporting because it will not have the nameserver links.

Re: New Taxonomic Checklists

As long as any new list you add will have your own site ID in the key, I don't think there is any likely problem with future dictionary upgrades (unless you were thinking about a different problem Mike?). There is an addin used in Luxembourg Museum for simple list management which will do this, although it is probably overkill to just create one list. If you decide to create your own list rather than use Mike's suggestion, let us know and we can sort out the SQL required to create the Taxon List and Taxon List Version entries needed.

Re: New Taxonomic Checklists

Thanks Mike & John,

I have now created a new list by hand and moved all the Species added either by SER or Sally Rankin during the Rec3-6 transfer, although I can't quite understand how there could be species in Rec3 which aren't on the Rec3 Checklist in Rec6 !!!
