Re: Comment fields in recording forms

How big is the comment field on a recording form?  This is the general comment field, not the taxon comments.  I've noticed recently, that the Sample Comment seems to be chopping off at around 15 characters.  So we get sample comments like 'proposed key sit' and 'woodland surve'.   I think this has only happened since we installed the last upgrade.

I originally thought it was data inputter error, but it is not limited to one person, and includes data entered by some extremely meticulous people, so I was surprised.  It only seems to occur with records entered using recording forms that we have set up, to allow us to enter lists of species for a site.  It doesn't happen on the standard data entry screen, where you are entering one record for one species - we are able to enter quite long comments.

We have been having problems with the Sample Comments.  Recorder seems to insist on adding in carriage returns, which are a complete nuisance.  It is not the data inputters, as we have made sure that they don't add carriage returns.  Also, the same comment seems to end up in the Sample Comment and the Taxon Comment - but the carriage returns are in different places.

Re: Comment fields in recording forms

Hi Eleanor,
There are a couple of known bugs with the sample comments field when populated through Recording Cards:

The last character is lost as seems to be the case in your examples. The field is memo so this should not be happening.  We are looking to fix this soon although not in 6.15.

The storage location of sample comments and taxon comments when entered through RCs is also due to be fixed.

We don't have anything logged on carriage returns so will look into this.
