Re: Import Locations - Grid

I'm importing and trying to match locations given to those in R6.

What I can't find in the help is; If I assign a location to a known location which has a different grid ref what happens to the records associated with that original location and is the original location grid stored anywhere?

The quandary being am I changing the original location information? Logic doesn't apply here as so many things in R6 do not seem to happen as I expect or as described so I have to ask.

The help file is not any help and when you select a site it places the centroid in the centroid column but does not seem to say what bearing this has on site based information.

I have an entry for a site with a Tetrad reference, I know the site and it covers most of the Tetrad and know the recorder will have known the site they were in. When the site centroid comes back it has a six fig grid. What will happen to the Tetrad reference, will it appear on the the event the sample or record or all?

Bear in mind I've not managed to import any data yet so I have little idea what it will do. Any help before I press NEXT please!

Re: Import Locations - Grid

Tony,

as far as I know the situation is that with any import the sample and event retain the grid ref as imported, provided it is not outside the limits of the location's gridsquares (if assigned). However if you have only 1k squares assigned to the location and try to import data with a tetrad or 10k ref you would, I believe, get an error.

Data already associated with the location will retain its grid ref. Only if you change the main (centroid) ref of a location would it give the option to change the references of records at the centroid, and requires confirmation in a dialogue box.

Re: Import Locations - Grid

Phew, thanks for that. I know it's what one might expect but any confirmation is of great help.

Thanks again.
