Re: Using SQLreports

Quick query,

When installed, where can I access SQL reports from? Have been absent from Recorder for a while and I'm sure I remember it being easily accessible under the reports menu...

Re: Using SQLreports

Yes, it should be available under Reports, if it is added in. If not you will need to go to Tools, Install, Add-in Module, click on Install and go to where you have it saved, should be under AddIns.

SQL Reports only works for pre Recorder 6, i.e. 2002 or before.

Re: Using SQLreports

In Recorder 6.9.2, a new interface has been added to the Reports menu allowing for hierarchical display of XML Reports, just like the old SQL Reports add-in. There are also a slew of other nifty new features allowing XML Reports developers to add controls to reports that provide users with and easy means of selecting taxa, recorders, locations, etc. I've already written some reports that show off some of these new features, and tweaked old ones. I've sent them to Sarah, so hopefully they'll be included in the final release. If anyone wants them to play around with in the beta release then let me know and I'll upload them here.

Re: Using SQLreports

Yes please Charles, would like to see these.

In follow up to Charles' email, Mike provided me with some training in starting to create xml reports a couple of weeks back. From that we developed a few useful summary reports which I will upload to this site. Interestingly testing a couple of them in 6.9.2 I had to edit them a bit to give them titles, etc, which I have now done.

The following two can be used directly (without editing) by saving them in your Recorder 6 directory, \User Files\Reports. Right click on a location in the Location Hierarchy and go to  Quick Report, Species Reports.

SppRecordsToSingleSiteInclSubSites.xml
SppGrpRecordsToSingleSitesInclSubSites.XML

The first one will give a count of the number of species records to a location, including all its subsites and the second one will provide the same except based on the species groups as found in the Taxon_Group table.

(The first one is similar to the 'Summary Report' except you click on the location and it is a count of occurrences as opposed to species).

The following two do a similar count but this time for a group of sites as defined by their Site_Status. In the following examples uploaded they are based on a Site Status of BBOWT Reserve. To use these two you will need to edit the xml file in Notepad and replace the BBOWT Reserve with your own Site_Status name. You will also want to change the name in the title at the top of the xml file and the file name itself. It will search to this site status name and include the subsites. To use these two you need to go to Reports, Run, Species Reports:

SppRecordsToBBOWTSitesInclSubSites.XML
SppGrpRecordsToBBOWTSitesInclSubSites.XML

Hope you find them useful. Any comments gratefully receieved.

Re: Using SQLreports

Thanks Brian but I suppose it would have been useful to have links to the xml rather than just the titles. Still no one seems to have noticed in the last year. I'd still like to see them myself.

Re: Using SQLreports

They're in the file uploads section of this site. Filter on user "brianmiller" and you should find a zip containing the reports.
