I have purchased a new Windows 7 laptop as a backup PC on which I want to install Recorder 6.  I have several questions before I bite the bullet and try the installation.

The laptop is currently running 64 bit Windows 7 with an option of reverting to the 32 bit version.  Will Recorder install on the 64 bit version or do I have to switch to the 32 bit? 

My other copy of Recorder 6 is running on Windows XP and was installed with .NET framework  1.1 and MS SQL Server 2005.  I find I also have .NET framework 2.0, 3.0 and 3.5 installed!   I currently only have the installation CD for ver 6.10.

Can someone kindly let me know what the correct combination of Windows 7 version, .NET framework and SQL server is to successfully install Recorder 6.  Also how can I obtain a copy of the latest installation CD?

Mike Weideli has Recorder 6 running with Windows 7. He said it was a bit tricky to install but it runs faster. If you are worried about installation he suggests getting Windows 7 Professional. With that you can set up a Windows XP virtual machine in which you can install and run Recorder 6 just as you would with XP but I think you lose the speed advantage.

A Recorder 6 user I was speaking to not long ago had so many problems with Recorder 6 and other software on 64 bit machines he told me he was going to revert to 32 bit. I managed to get a 64 bit PC running as a Recorder 6 workstation at one record centre but only with assistance from Dorset Software.

Version 6.14.4 installation DVDs are available from any of the resellers - http://www.jncc.gov.uk/page-4611. I sell it for £30. These DVDs have SQL Server 2005 Express on them. In theory, you should be able to install with a v6.10 CD but you would have to run all the upgrades. However, when I tried to install Recorder 6 using a v6.10 CD on a new desktop PC last year it wouldn’t install.
