Re: Downloaded NBN Data

Hi All,
My apologies if this is a silly question, but why is data downloaded from the NBN in a format which will not import directly into Recorder? Recorder will export data in NBN format.
Seems a bit lopsided to me.

I expect the reason for this is simply that the NBN Gateway data is not intended to be loaded into Recorder. If data is required for inclusion in Recorder then  the custodian of the data should be contacted to arrange an appropriate data sharing agreement.

In fact I would have thought importing data from the gateway into Recorder  would be a dangerous thing to do. If is  done then the dataset would need to be deleted completely before the next import and steps would need to be taken to prevent the data being exported to others. Personally, I think putting data temporarily into Recorder on this basis is dangerous as it is all too easy to accidentally include it in exports to others.

The other point worth making is that the Gateway contains is only a sub-set of the data Recorder is able to hold; it has a very limited data model by comparison. By importing Gateway data, you're likely to not be in receipt of the full data.
