Re: Recorder is not correctly installed on this machine. Upgrade cannot...

So I thought I was at the home stretch and just had to perform upgrades and install my final data set to start using Recorder 6.......

Alas is was not so. I went to install the upgrade and found this message [see subject]. Taking advice I found my draft data set was not of the same version as the R6 version. I then replaced the original blank .mdf and still have the same problem.

In desperation and having noticed that R6 was at version 6.13.2.176 and the .mdf at 6.13.1.170 I altered the .mdf version number to see what might happen. No change. I also fed in a site ID as that was blank no difference.

So apparently I can't upgrade and I can't use my final version of my .mdf. Hmmm

Anyone got an idea or failing that a working R6 they want to give away. I have to have this finished and running by the end of the week so I can do some work and it doesn't look promising.

Please help :D

Re: Recorder is not correctly installed on this machine. Upgrade cannot...

Hi Tony
I'm not sure what steps you had performed up to this point, but the message you are seeing is nothing to do with the database version being wrong. It simply means that Recorder is not installed on this machine, and the upgrade kit must be run on a machine which has a working Recorder copy on it. In case you need to look into it, the actual check it does is to confirm that the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Dorset Software\Recorder 6 exists. So you should install, check it is working, then run the upgrade from the same machine that the application can be run from.

If this doesn't work let us know what steps have led you to where you are and I'll see if I can help,

Re: Recorder is not correctly installed on this machine. Upgrade cannot...

Thank you John I think I made a rookie mistake, your response though has pointed me in the right direction. I then ran into the dreaded permissions issues. R6 had been running fine but the upgrade would not. This is now looking much better and I have run the "Upgrade from V6.10.4 to 6.13.3".

As I'm logged in remotely at this horrible hour of the morning my next instalment will have to wait for daylight as the .mdf is on my desk. I will however, thanks to you, be able to sleep for some of the night at least.

Thanks:cool:
