Re: Cannot set up R6 Workstation on new pc
Hello all,
we are on Recorder 6, v.6.13.3 running on SQL Server 2000. I'm trying to install Recorder as a workstation on a new pc (32-bit not 64-bit); and it won't.
Running WorkstationSetup.exe off the server as normal appears fine through most of the process - but then the progress bars for (I think) "unpacking the rest of the application files" just hang at an almost-completed point... And that's it. No further. We've left it for hours; we've cancelled the install and come back the next day; we've tried it as our all-powerful install login and also using the staff member's own login temporarily promoted to full admin rights… No use. No logfiles that I can find, to indicate what's gone wrong. Any pointers where I should look for these?
I tried using the WorkstationSetup.exe file over the network from our 2nd, separate, copy of R6 (as an experiment - to be deleted) This appeared to work as far as a successful installation went, but would not open R6.
- Site server copy of WorkstationSetup.exe is dated 05/12/2005. File version 6.6.8.58.
- "borrowed" WorkstationSetup.exe is dated 15/07/2007 (when 2nd installation was set up). File version 6.9.1.85.
Can I simply copy the newer file - and its WorkstationSetup folder? - into the other server/installation, and run it there as normal? (both installations are licensed and legal, and both are 6.13.3)
We've suggested upgrading to 6.14; but there is currently some management resistance to upgrading.
What else have I missed? Does anyone have any tips or similar experiences to pass on? Anything received with interest!
Many thanks in advance,
Claire
