Re: IW - Importing Sampling Methods in Recorder v6.14

Hi,

The character length allowed for importing Sampling Methods via the Import Wizard appears to have reduced in v6.14 to just 20 characters. Where previously I've been able to import pre-formatted Sampling Method data >20 characters satisfactorily I now can't.

Has anyone else experienced this?

I've had a quick look at the Terms Lists "Sample type" and it seems where previously it could import >20 characters into "Long Name" and shortening to 20 characters  for "Short Name", it no longer can.

I hope this makes sense!

Hi Les

I had a quick look and you are right, the upgrade does reduce the allowed field size for this and some other termlist fields to 20 characters which is unnecessary because the extra characters would have been placed in the long name field. I have reported this to Dorset Software to be fixed. If you need this quickly though and are able to run an SQL script against your database, let me know and I can give you a script to revert the behaviour.

Hi John,

Thanks for confirming this behaviour and the offer of the SQL. Could you send it to lhill@butterfly-conservation.org.

Best wishes,

Thanks John, for picking this up. I understand that this will be fixed in the upcoming maintenance release.
