Re: Designation reporting problem

Just been trying out the new designation reporting using the reporting wizard, which has the potential to be really useful. However I'm having some problems with it missing out some protected specie.

If I filter for 'All UK legally protected species' I don't get any badger records coming out.  Anyone else get the same problem?  If I output all records and select the 'short names' field from the Designations|All UK Legally Protected, the badger records show no designations in this field.  Don't know yet if its just Badgers but other species (Otters etc) seem to be being picked up correctly.

Can anyone help to solve this?

Re: Designation reporting problem

As I understand it the species designations in Recorder uses the JNCC species status list. The only designation listed for badger on the JNCC list is The Wildlife (Northern Ireland) Order. The omission of the Badger Act from the list presumably explains why badger isn't being picked up in the report wizard.

Re: Designation reporting problem

Hi Mark/Bob,

You are right in thinking that the designation reporting mainly uses the JNCC collation of taxon deisignations - this does now include badgers. The issue is that a later update to the taxon designation type keys to be included in 6.14 was not implemented - thank you for pointing this out. I will check the details for other late changes to see if there are other designations that are not being included correctly and get back to you. I will report this either a fix will be issued or it will be included in the next mini release.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
Best Wishes,
Lynn

Re: Designation reporting problem

Thanks Lynn

I've also noticed another anomaly with the BoCC3 listings.  If I request just amber listed species the extract picks up Lapwing and Scaup both of which were formerly Amber and are now Red following the current 2009 review.  I would expect it would pick up others that have changed in the last review too.  It appears that both the old 2002 and 2009 designation statuses on the JNCC list are being picked up.

It would be useful if these could be corrected as soon as possible otherwise we can't make full use of this excellent new feature.

Thanks

Re: Designation reporting problem

Hi again,

The protection of badgers appears to be the only one of late changes that was not implemented and therefore the remainder of the designation set contents should be working correctly. The badgers appears in three of the sets - so I guess until we can fix this you will just need to be aware the badgers are currently being missed out fo the report output.

Thanks again for flagging this up.
Best wishes,
Lynn
