R6 Master Checklist is identical to the UKSI Master Taxonomy. Use the Master Checklist whenever possible. If a taxon name is on the Master Checklist even as a synonym then it will be best to use this. If a taxon name doesn't appear on the Master Checklist and you want to record the entry under the name used by the recorder then look for the name on a recommended list (in caps). Matching in the R6 Import Wizard will try to find a name on the Master List. If it isn't there then it will try the other lists with the recommended lists being given priority. Most users do not like making entries under a taxon name different to that used by the recorder, unless there is absolutely no alternative.

Should Recorder 6 users be using 'A Master Checklist' rather than any of the other checklists whenever possible, including those that begin with a space and taxon group in capital letters (e.g. BRYOPHYTES British Bryological Society Checklist of British and Irish Bryophytes)? We just want to be clear what takes precedence, particularly when there are discrepancies.

On trying to find an answer on the forum, my colleague spotted a post from 2018 https://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=7209&p=2 where Chris Raper said they were "just maintaining the master taxonomy because the new platforms like iRecord don't use the checklists anyway". Presumably the master taxonomy translates through to Recorder 6 as 'A Master Checklist'?

Thanks for confirmations or otherwise :)

Lindsay
