			<description><![CDATA[<p><strong> Salary: </strong> £30,000 to £40,000 pa depending on experience</p><p><strong> Location: </strong> Flexible but with regular travel to Nottingham and London and across the UK.  Actual location will depend on where the post holder is based and what option is the most suitable for the host agency.</p><p><strong> Type: </strong> Initially a 3-year contract with the potential for permanency</p><p><strong> Hours: </strong> Full time</p><p>The National Biodiversity Network Trust is a charitable organisation with a membership that shares biological data and information. The NBN membership includes most of the UK’s national biological recording schemes and societies, many of the UK’s largest wildlife charities and NGO’s as well as Local Record Centres, government agencies, research institutions, botanic gardens and the public.</p><p>To date, over 250 million records have been shared within the NBN, many of which have been made available via the NBN Gateway, an online database and mapping portal. The NBN Trust is now working on updating the tools it uses to make this information accessible in a digitised and exchangeable form, and developing a new set of online NBN Atlases.<br />We are seeking a System Developer to help us with continuous development and maintenance of our biological data infrastructure.  The Developer’s role will be to implement the move from the NBN Gateway to the NBN Atlas platforms and to provide ongoing development, testing, maintenance and support of the NBN Atlas.  The role will also involve providing guidance, advice and support to a wide range of people from novice users to technical experts. Working as part of a small team, this is a key role reporting to the Chief Executive Officer.</p><p>The post holder will be expected to be experienced in;<br />Grails and Java programming and documentation<br />Web standards and protocols including CSS and Javascript<br />Unix and Linux operating systems<br />Working with relational databases<br />It is desirable for you to have:<br />knowledge of NoSQL databases<br />experience of working on Geospatial projects<br />Biodiversity informatics knowledge<br />Experience of biological recording and data collection</p><p>For more information contact <a href="mailto:name@example.com"> support@nbn.org.uk </a> or call the office on 0115 9247132</p><p>Closing date: 6th January 2017.
