Thanks Rachel. The name "Red Fox" certainly is in the UKSI (as I've got a 'back-end' link from Chris), but for some reason it doesn't seem to be being picked up. Clearly would be good to resolve the reason for this, as it may also result in a cascade of other similar cases?

I do think that getting these search boxes right is absolutely critical as it's the first thing that anyone encounters, well before they get deeper into the system.

Cheers

Hi Andy,

Thanks for flagging this - we have explored and it looks like an issue with the Underlying UKSI for the NHM.

There is no common name for Fox on the Atlas http://species.als.scot/species/NHMSYS0000080188#names and this seems to mirror the UKSI http://www.nhm.ac.uk/our-science/data/u … Names=true

I will raise with Chris Raper.

Rachel

Hi - just another query about apparently basic omissions relating to the search function in Atlas of Living Scotland. If I type "Fox" or "Red Fox" into the search boxes, I can't get to information about this species. I can only get to it if I know it's Vulpes vulpes, or one of 10 Gaelic (?) names. Sorting some of these issues relating to common names of common species does seem pretty fundamental for gaining public acceptance of the project?

Cheers

Andy
