Charles,

Yes, the latter. Around half of the list is already in Recorder 6 and I've recently received permission to include the remaining families, including the ladybirds. Addition of these families was delayed as they were undergoing major revisions.

John

John, I was under the impression that it already had been incorporated as it's in my copy of R6. Or do you mean the rest of the Coleoptera list will be incorporated? According to your last update PDF, only half of the Coleoptera list was complete at that time.

Charles

Brian,

Thank you for pointing this out. The Recorder 3 dictionary is now very out of date and is not being updated. However, the good news is that the full British Isles beetle checklist, as available via The Coleopterist website http://www.coleopterist.org.uk/, will be incorporated within the next two months. It will then be made available to Recorder users, so will probably be in one of the next two upgrades.

This will hopefully sort all of the beetle problems.

Kind regards,
John

Dr John Tweddle
Data Manager, NBN Species Dictionary Project

Am I mistaken or is there an error in the Recorder 3 dictionary? This seems to be the only dictionary with the 16-spot ladybird.

However, in there it is listed as both Tytthaspis sedecimpunctata and Halyzia sedecimguttata.

In the Naturalists' Handbooks and on the following website

http://www.ladybird-survey.org/UKladybirds/UKladybirds.htm

it says:

Tytthaspis 16-punctata is 16 spot ladybird (sci. is a synonym in Recorder to Tytthaspis sedecimpunctata)

and:

Halyzia 16-guttata is Orange Ladybird (sci. is a synonym in Recorder to Halyzia sedecimguttata, but is not called Orange Ladybird).

Are names in Recorder 3 updated still or are they now not going to be due to the preferred lists being there (although this species does not seem to be elsewhere)?

Thanks

Brian
