Message for Andy Foy.....

I've just installed DOSBox 74.2 onto a new Windows 11 machine and installed the batch file and config file into the C:\RECORDER folder as required, exactly as on my old Windows 10 machine.

Recorder 3 opens in DOSBox fine....I enter the user name OK but when I enter my password I get an "Invalid User" message. I'm using the correct user name and password, the Target line in DOSBox Properties is as it should be. All appears to be identical between the two machines.

Any thoughts?

Bob Marsh

John Morris in JNCC used to issue new code numbers for adding more taxa to the species dictionary. He retired in 2015.
Recorder 3 "fatal error"

I have been happily running Recorder 3.4.3 (AREV v3.12) in DOSBox for some while. After processing one set of new record lists I received an error when I tried to update the indexes. I have been unable to rebuild the indexes for the same error which says "Fatal Error Readnexting in table !RECORDS" - see attached file for a screenshot.

Except that some background processing encounters the same error and chucks me out to the main screen whenever I pause in doing things, I can still enter records, but can't add them to the index.

I wondered about deleting REV20044.OV or replacing it with an older version, but I have no idea what this will do to my data. Help!

Thanks,

paul smith

Our Recorder 3 database was transferred to Recorder 6 by Sally and Mike in 2007.

We on occasion have to go back to the original R3 database to find out when a record was originally entered and by whom - all the records that were transferred have the same "entered by" and "entered date", that of the date they were transferred into R6. Is there a way to get that information out of Recorder 3, and in to Recorder 6?

Hello,

We currently have a Recorder 2002 database on an old PC at one of our properties. The records from this database were transferred to our Recorder 6 database a few years ago with no new records added since. Before we dispose of the old PC I thought I would double check that all records were moved over successfully. I have found 85 (out of 15197) which were not. They relate to multiple surveys and I can't see any common reason why they would not have been copied over. I have the Taxon_Occurrence_Key for each of these records and would like to transfer them to our Recorder 6 database.

I would like some advise on the best way to go about this.

Thank you for your time.

Christine Oines

Recorder 3 WILL NOT RUN on a 64-bit Windows operating system. AREV.EXE is 16-bit software so there is no way round this!

What you can do is use software like Virtual Box to run a virtual machine (VM) with a 32-bit version of Windows installed and then run Recorder 3 on the VM.

My experience:

- I have Virtual Box running on Ubuntu 12.04 64-bit.
- I have VMs running 32-bit version of Windows XP SP3 hosted on this system.
- Recorder 3 (and Recorder 2002) runs fine on these VMs.
