New to Wiki?

A wiki is a type of website that allows users to easily add, remove, or otherwise edit all content, very quickly and easily. This ease of interaction and operation makes a wiki an effective tool for collaborative writing. The term wiki is a shortened form of wiki wiki which is from the native language of Hawaii (Hawaiian), where it is commonly used as an adjective to denote something "quick" or "fast" (Hawaiian dictionary).

The Wiki, therefore, is an ideal type of website for providing documentation, tutorials and other assistance for a software package such as Recorder. It is different to normal help files in that the content is primarily provided by users for the benefit of other users - community driven documentation. As well as editing the main pages of the Wiki it is possible to contribute more informal comments regarding pages via the discussion tab at the top.

Wikis are edited using a special, simple method of formatting text called Wikitext. For example, wrapping a word in 2 single quotes like ''this'' converts the text to italic. When you edit Wikitext, there is a toolbar allowing you to apply basic formatting, links and so on to the selected text. There are extensive online resources available regarding the formatting of Wikitext, for example the tutorials on Wikipedia (this Wiki is driven by the same software as Wikipedia) at Wikipedia Tutorial.

If you would like to practice entering Wikitext, feel free to go to the following Sandbox page and edit it.
