Re: Bug synonymy

I was chasing up what seemed to be the first NBNG dot for the mirid Rhabdomiris striatellus after a posting on http://www.ispot.org.uk/node/154297.  When I passed the news to our Heteroptera man here, he pointed out that this was the same as Calocoris quadripunctatus, which is known from Highland.  This synonymy is confirmed on the British Bugs site.

The NBNG maps do not implement the synonymy, mapping the two taxa separately, so I think something is wrong here.

Further to the above, I see that the third synonym, Calocoris striatellus, is also mapped separately from the other two.

Re: Bug synonymy

Hi Murdo,

This caused me to pause as we have Calocoris (Rhabdomiris) striatellus (Fabricius, 1794) as the preferred name in the Species Dictionary - based on our current recommended checklist for the group (Bernard Nau's Checklist of Heteroptera of the British Isles). However, I have now added Rhabdomiris striatellus (Fabricius 1794) as the accepted name (with Taxon Version Key NHMSYS0020784510), as this will slign us with European checklists.

Consequently, the following names in the Species Dictionary have now been mapped as synonyms of Rhabdomiris striatellus:

Calocoris (Rhabdomiris) striatellus (Fabricius, 1794)
Calocoris fornicatus (Fieber)
Calocoris quadripunctatus (Villers)
Calocoris ochromelas (Gmelin)
Calocoris striatellus (Fabricius)

Re: Bug synonymy

Thanks, Charles.  That would seem to sort the problem.

In case you have not seen it, there may be a dictionary issue in http://forums.nbn.org.uk/viewtopic.php?id=2112 with Carabus cancellatus/granulatus.
